Goals and Objectives
M&E-grade online video platforms require all current feature sets plus integrated channel playout, social and interactive services, AI-driven intelligent workflow and metadata processing, automated CDN changeover for QoS, more flexible video player customization and app design for UX/UI improvement, and support for low-latency technologies for advanced live production and streaming applications.
Technology Deployed
Low-latency HLS extends the protocol to enable low-latency video streaming while maintaining scalability. The new low-latency mode lowers video latencies over public networks into the range of standard television broadcasts.
Unlike HLS, which is built with TCP, WebRTC is UDP based. This means that WebRTC can start without requiring any handshake between the client and the server. As a result, WebRTC is speedier but also more susceptible to network fluctuations.
Use Case Summary
Online video platform use cases include live event streaming for sports, news, concerts, and other applications. Video-on-demand use cases include services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and HULU. For enterprise use cases, OVPs are used for training, distance learning, corporate communications, public or legislative events, telehealth, and many other applications.
