Current Situation
First responders do not have access to information such as officer biometrics, real-time visuals, or other smart tools such as smart holsters that trigger a video to begin once a gun is drawn.
Goals and Objectives
Responder wearables have many different functions, but at a high level, they seek to instrument the officer to collect physical information for analysis and decision support from the crime center or mobile response units.
Technology Deployed
Smart holster and gun sensors, specialized vests and other apparel, biometric sensors, movement sensors, GPS, environmental and temperature sensors, cloud storage, analytics, IoT platforms, and digital evidence management solutions
Use Case Summary
IoT or sensor-enabled wearables are contributing to improved situational awareness, responder safety, and incident decision making. Responder wearables create digital information of events as they unfold, including the health of the officer, the location of personnel, and when he or she took a specific action (e.g., unholstered his or her gun).
