Current Situation
Media asset management refers to both the process and software used to manage video and multimedia files. A MAM system is used to accommodate the need to manage large media files and has become an essential part of the video production process as it allows companies to store and manage large media libraries from one centralized, reliable source.
Goals and Objectives
MAM systems need to know everything about your files, not only the asset name and location, but also technical metadata such as codecs, formats, and frame rates. MAM systems need to provide detailed information on the actual visual and audible content inside the video and recognize faces, speech for subtitling, and more. MAM system architecture should be designed for deployment on the cloud (cloud native) as a local on-premises service or as hybrid cloud, have elastic scalability, support multiplatform applications, support redundancy/security, and be based on an open architecture using standard APIs for communication with third-party tools and existing systems. AI/ML needs to be used with MAM systems to analyze video assets and assign more detailed metadata to build more library and processing intelligence for search, production, publishing, and ultimately discovery at the consumer client side of the distribution chain. This also adds intelligence for the recommendations.
Technology Deployed
Ingest and transcoding – Capture SDI, SMPTE ST 2110, NDI, SRT and HLS feeds, file cataloguing, retrieval and distribution, open architecture, permits management, cloud ready with web interface and having an integrated acceleration protocol for IP networks allowing for a deployment of the whole system (MAM in Cloud) or part of the system (Hybrid Cloud) in platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS or Google Cloud; multisite and multiplatform compatible, asset-associated logic, customizable data models, enhanced search features, scalability, and security
Use Case Summary
MAM use cases allow for maximizing media operations, archival needs, and media distribution and delivery. Streamline media life-cycle management, from acquisition to final delivery. Solidify the link between media operations and business practices to make operations more efficient and profitable. Offset growing operation costs and create new revenue streams by quickly searching through and repurposing existing content. Cater to different facilities’ needs by integrating third-party workflows into one platform. Unify remote and local facilities by enabling them to search for and access the same media and metadata. Simplify processes and save time through features including automation, multivendor integration, and managing transcodes and uploads in the background. React to the need for cost-effective global production by enabling remote workflows and collaboration. Keep files preserved, secure, and metadata enriched, minimizing data loss and time and money spent on manual archiving and retrieving content. Respond to consumer demand for ubiquitous content by delivering content across multiple channels. Ability to park projects and back up media in the cloud.
