Current Situation
The playout system executes a scheduled and time-accurate playlist of content to generate a linear radio or television signal (or “feed”). Within that playlist, there is the content that goes “on air” — live or recorded shows/programs, ad breaks, auto-promo clips, and so forth — with graphics, closed captioning, subtitling, and metadata association for downstream distribution actions by multiplatform requirements.
Goals and Objectives
The goals and objectives of a comprehensive integrated playout solution embodies all the current available features today plus the added benefits of integrated in-stream dynamic ad insertion, transcoding, and packaging for multiplatform distribution, eliminating many of the desperate services that add latency and reliability issues throughout the content creation, production, and distribution chain.
Technology Deployed
Ingest and transcoding – Capture SDI, SMPTE ST 2110, NDI, SRT and HLS feeds, cloud ready with web interface and having an integrated acceleration protocol for integration interface with cloud-based MAM for playlist content assembly and LL-HLS and/or LL-DASH for CDN distribution supported by platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, or Google Cloud.
Use Case Summary
Use cases for cloud-based integrated playout include SVOD, AVOD, and FAST channel origination. Playout channels can be pop-up one-time event channels for live programming, social media, news, sports, training, or marketing activities or grouped channels offering broad-based streaming platform aggregation.
