Current Situation
Products are designed and reviewed mostly in and of themselves, without consideration for how or whether or not they will be delivered or picked up by the consumer and how the weight, portability and size matter from a fulfillment perspective in terms of user experience and store staging footprint.
Goals and Objectives
Think of product and fulfillment as one entity from a packaging design perspective, where fulfillment is essentially an aspect of product, such that design of product and its packaging are performed in tandem, using fulfillment data to inform the process, including aspects of retail store footprint for packing, staging, and storing click-and-collect products; elements of weight when considering burden on associates for curbside delivery; and so forth.
Technology Deployed
PLM, digital content management, cloud, mobile apps, order management, and omni-channel fulfillment systems
Use Case Summary
Improve customer and associate experience and reduce costs to serve by providing a common platform for decision making about design and production of product and its packaging that includes fulfillment data. This could affect things like sizing and weight, which impact consumer decisions about which fulfillment options to select and retailer decisions about which products to make available for delivery or click and collect.
