Current Situation
With the increasing demand for EVs, there are not enough commercially available public and private DC fast-charging stations to support rapid charging and long-distance commutes. An extensive DC fast-charging network on highways is necessary on state and national highways to enable a long-distance EV commute and thus sustain the growth of EVs.
Goals and Objectives
The governments, utilities, and private charge point operators understand the need for expanding the network of public chargers. The objective is to build an expansive network with new technology enabling rapid charging to facilitate the transition from fossil fuel–powered vehicles to EVs.
Technology Deployed
Level 3 stations require a special allocation of power with independent transformers, large batteries, chargers, connectors, cloud-hosted software for operations, payment processing, and customer support
Use Case Summary
An expansive EV charging infrastructure is necessary for quicker charge times and the scalability of EVs across regions. DC fast chargers are expensive to establish but necessary on highways connecting major cities to support a long-distance EV commute.
