Current Situation
For decades, police officers have been responding to calls for services that would benefit from trained social service intervention to address mental health crises, addiction issues, delinquency, and so forth. Catalyzed by the past year of racial justice protests in the United States that gained traction internationally, there is a global movement to migrate to alternative response models.
Goals and Objectives
Leverage technology and process changes to dispatch the most fitting resource, rather than simply sending police. Digital ride-alongs have also become important tools in the assessment of the individual in crisis and to help augment police capabilities should that be the available resource.
Technology Deployed
Live streaming laptops and/or body-worn video cameras, mobile broadband, and smartphones
Use Case Summary
Workflow and technology augmentation will help provide the right resources in an emergency response.
